Within the next two years, all licensed glider pilots partaking in private or professional flight activity will become subject to a brand new set of requirements concerning their physical condition. From April 2018, all glider club members wishing to remain licensed will require an EASA LAPL medical in order to do so. Up until now, the only prerequisite in place for pilots of this categorisation has been the BGA Medical Requirement.
The new law will invalidate this process (as of March 2018) and bring in its place the LAPL – a new examination which remains valid for a maximum of 5 years for pilots under the age of 40; and 2 years for pilots over the age of 40.
Two of our senior Doctors are certified Class 1 Aeromedical Examiners (AMEs), already servicing over 300 private and professional pilots throughout the North of England. As such, we’re best placed to assist the regions innumerable flying clubs and their members in achieving the new standard within the required timeframe.

Though any GP can theoretically carry out the examinations required to fulfill the LAPL guidelines, they will first have to register with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). From our experience, this often presents a cause for hesitation – as a result of the complex EASA guidance surrounding the matter.
Given our existing standing within the aviation medical community – we really are best suited to assist with the impending transition. Examinations can be performed on-site as well as in our Newcastle-upon-Tyne Regent Centre facility, and more information is readily available for anyone wishing to get in touch.
We offer the highest quality service and receive positive feedback daily.
